Auckland
This year, I am running the Melbourne Marathon to raise awareness and funds for ongoing research for better treatments and eventually a cure for Parkinson's Disease. Donations of $99 or more will receive a supporter's t-shirt!
My amazing dad Aidan lives with Parkinson’s. He manages it while working and living normally, but it’s a challenge that’s with him every moment of every day. Dad was a runner, and watching his training and events growing up was a big reason why I got into the sport too.
Exercise is one of the most powerful tools available to manage Parkinson’s, but it can be hard to maintain! A marathon is a big challenge (especially with two little kids), but my runs will be pretty straight forward compared to what Dad and others go through daily.
What is Parkinson’s?
• A progressive, degenerative neurological condition that impacts movement and cognition.
• The fastest growing neurological condition in the world - expected to double in prevalence in the next 10–15 years
• It impacts people of all ages - 10% of people living with Parkinson’s are diagnosed before 40
• It can’t be cured but there are treatments which can give some symptom relief and improve quality of life
