Anorexia Awareness
Te Awamutu, Waikato
A year ago in November I was diagnosed with Anorexia. Something myself or my family knew nothing about. While it started with wanting to get fit and lose a bit of weight a lot of contributing factors including lockdowns put me in a fast downward spiral that saw me lose 10 kilos in just 5 weeks and at times wanting to lose my life. I definitely lost my spark, smile and zest for life. Every part of my being in the end was to stop eating and lose weight, it became an obsession from fear and a disease I called "Anna". After multiple GP visits, we realised the devastating fact that there was no help for us for at least 6 months. I remember mum saying "she'll be dead by then!" My mum read book after book and the late night zoom calls to professionals overseas were endless. In the end I went 76 hours with no food or water. I was finally bad enough to be admitted to hospital and get some help. I still manage my mental wellbeing, however I am healthy, eating and exercising in a balanced way. I want to raise money for Gumboot Friday, to help other teenagers struggling with anorexia. My family and I are doing an 11km run in Tauranga, on 6th November, 12 months to the day I was in hospital, and would love you to sponsor me. Our aim is to get the message out about Anorexia and what it does to our teens. All proceeds go to Gumboot Friday. If you wish to join us on the run/walk please contact us directly. Thank you in advance for all your love, support and donations.
