Walking My First Marathon For Alzheimer's New Zealand

I lost my amazing Grandad in November 2016 to Alzheimer's. He really was an incredible man and I would like to run this Auckland Marathon in his honour. Alzheimer's is something that I never really understood until it happened to my Grandad and watching him battle it was one of the hardest things I'll ever have to experience.

They say that Alzheimer's disease is harder on the family than the person who has it and it's true but my family remained strong with support from charities like Alzheimer's New Zealand (but the UK equivalent), who believe that life doesn't end when Alzheimer's/Dementia begins. They not only keep people with the disease connected to their lives but also support anyone affected by funding research and campaigning to raise awareness, providing information and resources, advocating for high-quality services, and promoting research about prevention, treatment, cure and care.

Alzheimer's New Zealand support local Alzheimers NZ organisations throughout New Zealand.

I'm joining them in their mission to raise awareness of Alzheimer's. I'll be showing my support by walking my first ever full marathon—which is 42.2km—so what's my goal?

It seems only fitting to try and raise $420.20. Of course, more donations the better but I would love to hit this goal.

* I was meant to be running the marathon, but due to a torn MCL ligament in my knee, and some. very stern words from my physio I can no longer run it. BUT... I will be walking the 42.2K instead :)
