Raising Money for Engineers Without Borders!
International
Hey Guys :) I’ll be running the half marathon on September 2nd to raise money for Engineers Without Borders. Engineers Without Borders is a not-for-profit, non-governmental humanitarian engineering organisation that helps developing nations get the engineering knowledge and resources they need to improve their quality of life. I’m passionate about EWB because they truly makes a difference around the world with human-centred engineering. EWB is funded completely from fundraisers like this one, so it would be great if everyone could get involved in supporting Engineers Without Borders :)
Engineers Without borders New Zealand focuses primarily on projects in the south pacific, helping developing nations like Samoa, Vanuatu and Tonga get more reliable access to clean water. The difficult circumstances that developing nations like this face prevent them from meeting their basic needs, such as the need for clean water. Engineers without borders helps communities overcome their circumstances by providing engineering solutions specific to the needs of the community. They focus letting the community direct the engineering process, rather than creating a “westernised” solution that isn’t specific to a community’s culture or needs. This is why I have huge respect for EWB and their “human-centred design” approach to engineering. Their current projects in the south pacific include the “Takara Water Supply Project” in Vanuatu, which is aiming to improve the water supply to the Takara Dam and support surrounding communities. EWB is also looking at feasibility studies to improve the drinking water supply for Tailulu College in Tonga and develop water schemes for Samoa.
I’m running this September because I truly believe that EWB is helping communities help themselves and bringing change for developing nations that would have otherwise been impossible. Please support me so Engineers Without Borders can keep working with communities and improve their quality of life one project at a time.
