Help save NZ's native birds by desexing your pet cat, stopping their over population.

Taranaki

Hi, my name is Sophie and I am 11 years old. I am doing a school project as I graduate from Primary to Junior High School.

My project is bringing awareness to everyone, on the importance of desexing your pet cat. Did you know that cats can start breeding at 6 months old, and one female cat can produce 2905 kittens in 7 years!! So by just desexing one female cat, you can prevent this over population.

Also, did you know that 1.4 million domestic cats, kill at least 18.76 million animals per year including 1.2 million native birds (Forrest and Bird NZ).

One way to prevent this horrific loss of native birds is to prevent to over population of cats in NZ.

It costs $160 to desex a domestic female cat and $100 for a domestic male cat (and $90 and $50 for wild cats). Many pet owners don't want to pay this, so I hope to raise money to run a campaign at my local Vet Clinic to reduce the cost of desexing your cat. This will help more people afford the operation.

Sophie Perrett's involvement (page creator)

I am very passionate about NZ's native birds, and one of the biggest threats to our birdlife are cats. I am raising money to help people pay for the de-sexing of their cats, and for wild cats to be desexed.
