Participating in Napier Scooter Challenge 2023

Tutira, Hawke's Bay

I'm embarking on this ride from Napier to Wellington on my 50cc scooter because I thought it would help raise some funds for 3 great charities (Awhi Trust, I am Hope & Jolly Good Chaps) and be a bit of a laugh with some mates. But in reality I’m just trying to relive my drunken days scooting around Thailand playing up like the cheap 2stroke scooter I’m planning on riding.

## NEW DATE 29th APRIL ##

RIDING FOR HAWKES BAY

Hi everyone

Firstly, our thoughts and prayers to those who have lost homes, livelihoods and loved ones in result of the Cyclone Gabrielle.

So many stories of heart-breaking damage and loss along with inspiring stories of heroic rescues and lives saved.

We have had quite a few messages asking whether the ride to Wellies was still going ahead. Initially we thought that running the event on the 4th of March would still be possible but after a few days it had become pretty obvious that we would have to postpone the ride.

We now have a new date locked in, Saturday the 29th of April and we hope you all can make it.

We will also reschedule the quiz night which will run a couple of weeks before the ride.

We are also thinking about pivoting the event a wee bit and making it all about raising funds for those affected so badly by Cyclone Gabrielle in Hawkes Bay so we will be splitting the funds 50/50 with Mike Kings "I Am Hope" (Hawkes Bay counselling) and local charity Jolly Good Chaps Charitable Trust with 100% of proceeds going to Hawkes Bay flood relief (Jolly Good Chaps Charitable Trust will distribute funding as they see fit).

Given the change on how funds will be distributed, we wanted to offer donors a refund, in case you want. You just need to get in touch with Givealittle (helpdesk@givealittle.co.nz) by March 20th and they will be able to help you with it.

We have set a target of $200,000 and we think with over 100 riders on board this year we should be able to crush it!

As some of you will be aware, our good friends and sponsor of our main prize Zeelandt Brewery in Eskdale was absolutely devastated in the floods and were lucky to make it out of their place alive (big love to Chris and family!). So we will have to rustle up some new prizes for the event.

We have also tee’d up some awesome prizes for those who raise the most money, so let's get out there and raise a truckload of dingaling for those in real need in our community!

Entries are still open so if you know anyone that is wanting to join us on the ride and fundraise for Hawkes Bay get them to check out the website scooterchallenge.co.nz
