A fundraiser to help Riki raise $120,000 for life-changing HSCT treatment in Mexico to stop the progression of PPMS.
Dunedin, Otago
To my amazing Hong Kong friends and family
My dear friend Riki, at the young age of 36, has been diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS). Riki, his beautiful wife Frances and two incredible kids Mila (7) and Wiremu (5), are all now facing an unimaginable journey ahead.
We are raising funds to help him receive a Stem Cell transplant in Mexico. There’s no cure for PPMS, but Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation- (HSCT) offers real hope of stopping it in its tracks. It’s not available in NZ, so Riki must travel to Mexico (Clinica Ruiz, Puebla). We need to raise $120,000NZD to cover the treatment, flights, and other costs—with no government support.
Money should not be the only thing standing between Riki and a better future.
As expats living abroad, many of our loved ones are often far away. That doesn't mean we can not love and support from afar. Any donation big or small or share with friends helps! Please help get behind Riki.
To make things interesting, for every $100HKD my page raises toward Riki's treatment, I pledge (with Emily's support), to knock off 1km of exercise... MAKE ME WORK PEOPLE and I'll keep you all posted along the way!
If you have the time, please take a moment of your day to learn more Riki's situation and PPMS.
Riki's journey to HSCT begins! 15 April 2025
Kia ora whānau, friends, and supporters,
We have some big news—Riki’s treatment is officially booked! He will be traveling to Mexico at the end of July to undergo HSCT. This wouldn’t be possible without the incredible generosity and kindness of every single person who has supported us.
We are truly humbled and beyond grateful for all the donations, fundraisers, and messages of encouragement. Your support has lifted us through this journey and given us so much hope for the future.
There’s still a way to go—we’re continuing to fundraise to cover the remaining costs of treatment, travel, and everything Riki will need for his recovery. But knowing we have such an incredible community behind us gives us so much hope.
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated, fundraised, and supported us in so many ways. Your kindness means the world, and we truly couldn’t do this without you! ❤️
With love and gratitude,
Frances, Riki & whānau
