Walk 2.1km on March 21 to support kids with Downs syndrome. Raising awareness for Trisomy 21 and funds for speech therapy.
On March 21st we’re inviting friends, family and our community to Step Up for 21 — a 2.1 km walk to celebrate and support people with Down syndrome.
Why 2.1 km on March 21?
Because World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on 21/3, representing the three copies of chromosome 21 that people with Down syndrome have. This is called Trisomy 21. Instead of the usual two copies of chromosome 21, people with Down syndrome have three copies of chromosome 21.
We’re walking 2.1 km as a fun way to recognise this and help raise awareness and support.
This cause is very close to our hearts because Emily has Down syndrome and benefits from speech therapy support. Early communication support makes a huge difference for children with Down syndrome as they learn to communicate with the world around them.
We are raising funds for UpsideDowns Education Trust, an amazing New Zealand organisation that helps provide speech and language therapy for children with Down syndrome.
