Walking in support of Prostate Cancer.
Canterbury, Selwyn District
We are a group of four women walking the 280-kilometre Portuguese Camino Trail in memory of Peter Barrett, who passed away from prostate cancer in 2023, and in support of Gwyn Edwards, who is currently living with prostate cancer.
Our journey begins in Porto, Portugal, and we expect to complete the walk over 18 days, averaging around 22 kilometres each day. If you'd like to follow our daily journey our blog can be found at https://caminoforpete.blogspot.com/.
We are raising funds for the Selwyn and Christchurch Prostate Cancer Support Groups, part of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand. The money raised will help provide welfare and support for local members, including assisting with unfunded Prost-FIT exercise classes.
The Support Groups provide a safe and welcoming environment where men with prostate cancer, along with their partners, can share experiences, receive information, and benefit from ongoing peer support. Prost-FIT exercise classes help improve the health and wellbeing of men living with prostate cancer, with funding currently covering only 40 weeks each year.
Your generosity will directly benefit members of the Selwyn and Christchurch Support Groups, helping to provide essential support services and access to Prost-FIT classes.
Thank you for helping us honour Pete's memory, support Gwyn, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of men and families affected by prostate cancer.
Thank you so much, have been planning this for Pete for 3 years, & am now going to be walking instead of talking.
Thank you so much, as to the updates will try our best to keep it polite.
