💙 Support Merv Grewar’s World Record Row for Dementia Canterbury
Ashburton, Canterbury
At 90 years old, Merv Grewar is proving that age is no barrier to strength, determination, or purpose.
On December 6th at Fit 4 Life Gym in Ashburton, New Zealand, Merv attempted to break the world record for the 100 metre indoor row for the 90–95-year-old category (20.5 seconds). He was 1.3 seconds away (21.7 seconds) and will make another attempt in 3-weeks!
Merv broke the New Zealand record for the 85–89 age group (20.7 seconds) in 2022, and now he’s setting his sights even higher, rowing not just for himself, but for a cause that’s deeply personal. Since this record, Merv received a hip replacement after a fall on his bike. This only motivated him more to get back on the rowing machine and break the world record!
Merv’s late wife lived with dementia, and through this challenge he hopes to raise awareness and funds for Dementia Canterbury, supporting the many families affected by this heartbreaking condition.
Every dollar donated goes directly toward helping those living with dementia and their caregivers receive the care, resources, and community support they deserve.
Let’s get behind Merv as he rows into the record books and rows for a cause close to his heart. 💪💙
