This grassroots initiative is to help small, local businesses affected by Cyclone Gabrielle get back on their feet.
Hawke's Bay, Hastings District
The devastation Cyclone Gabrielle brought to the Hawkes Bay in February is still being felt across the region. People have lost not only their homes but their livelihoods, with crops destroyed, animals dead or displaced and equipment and transport severely compromised.
We know many New Zealanders are still looking for ways to help, so with the help of Jane and her connections at Rotary NZ, the Financial Services Federation (FSF) has set up a fundraising campaign.
This is a grassroots initiative with a focus on small businesses, the backbone of any community, to help them get back on their feet and keep people employed. We are focusing on the horticulture, viticulture, and agriculture sectors. Donations will go to Rotary New Zealand World Community Service (RNZWCS), which will administer the funds to go to Hastings District/Napier City businesses nominated by local Rotary clubs.
Every donation counts towards making life just a little bit easier to help these local businesses get back on track.
Hawke's Bay local Jane Dunkerley has shared her account of what it is like on the ground, as well as the harrowing experience of a couple who are now living with her after their house was destroyed by floodwater.
