A charity challenge for teams of one to four people to play golf slightly faster than they normally would from dawn to dusk.
Fitzroy, New Plymouth
Kidney Kids is a non-profit organisation established in 1990 to support children with kidney disease and/or urinary tract disorders and their whānau nationwide.
Starship Children’s Health is the main hospital for children with chronic kidney disease. This can mean lengthy periods away from home for the child and their parent/caregiver. During this time away, Kidney Kids aims to help alleviate the stress by offering emotional and practical support to families while their child receives specialised medical treatment.
Like many charities Kidney Kids need funds to support all the kids in need throughout New Zealand and in a nod to the kids who face chronic kidney disease and what that involves everyday, creating themselves a new normal by doing every day things a little harder, a bit more of a challenge - we have created an event that does exactly that - we are taking the game of golf and not only playing it for a long time but playing it faster, making it a little harder than it would be normally, just like the kidney kids face.
The competitors (solo) to teams of four will be playing golf at speed for 12 hours on January 21st 2023. They are looking for you to make pledges to motivate them in this challenge, e.g. if one person can finish 9 rounds of golf you will donate a certain amount to kidney kids.
We know we are competiting with so many great causes so these competitors are really putting their bodies on the line from dawn to dusk to raise money for one of the many good ones.
The world record has been broken! 23 January 2023
Thank you to everyone who has donated to back the entrants in this event and support Kidney Kids. We had 72 people out on the course over 25 teams ranging from solos to teams of four, there were some amazing feats of people pushing themselves to their limits. We had three people break the current world record for the most holes of golf played in 12 hours (252) and a new world record of 311 set by Shanon Stallard. Many of our entrants have posted a de-brief of the event on their Facebook pages and are asking for support of Kidney Kids so keep it coming, every dollar counts towards supporting our kids with chronic kidney disease and end stage renal failure in New Zealand.
