  • The boys made it!

The day started with a 45 minute boat ride into a beautiful sunrise over Ships Cove, and at 7.11am Team LZ charged onto the Queen Charlotte track. Early enthusiasm was quickly met with a steep ascent, the first of many climbs for the day. Over the following 11 hours the boys met and conquered many physical and mental challenges, climbing over 4,500 total metres, whilst trying to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the brief moments our eyes lifted from the track. We finally emerged from our 71km battle at 6.18pm, with a bottle of champagne and our dedicated support crew waiting for us. Unfortunately the sun beat us by 40 minutes, but we rested easy knowing we had left it all out on the track.

Whilst the adventure provided a bit of Type 2 fun for the boys, the journey was ultimately all about supporting Save the Children and the fantastic work they are doing in East Africa. We want to sincerely thank all our donors for the incredibly generous donations you have made to this very worthy cause. We know these are greatly appreciated by the Save the Children team, and will save lives in places like Ethiopia and Somalia as they battle the food crisis.

We are so close to that $10,000 goal and hope to get there over the next couple of weeks. Adding the $0.90 Government contribution for every dollar donated, it’s pretty amazing to think that collectively we have contributed nearly $20,000 to some very needy people on the other side of the world.

Thanks again for your generosity, and we are looking forward to doing it all again with a new challenge in 2018.

    One team one dream!

    Team LZ

  • Toying around with a marathon

On Sunday 4th June Team Limit Zero had a different, much more unique sort of training run scheduled. Three of which were entered in the Christchurch 42.2km marathon event and the other just joining in for the fun of it, I mean it was raining with a cold wind and a high of 7 degrees, so why wouldn't you try to sneak in and get involved...

Blair Williamson was taking on the Guinness World record of 'Most Rubik's Cubes solved while running a marathon', and as funny as this may be, we were all deadly serious. With a current record of 175 Rubik's Cubes completed in a marathon of 4 hours 51 minutes, we had to make sure we were under the 5 hour mark for the record to officially count. Blair knew that although this is an individual effort there was no way he was going to get there without the support of his trusty "find the hardest thing possible, give it all you got, one team one dream" crew of Sean Bagnall, Nick Pope, and Chris Simcock.

Between the 4 of us we covered over 147km that day and happy to say that Blair did beat / smash the record completing 254 Rubik's Cubes in his marathon time of 4 hours 54 minutes and 30 seconds. Nick Pope and Sean Bagnall finishing off their marathon efforts in 4 hours and 58 minutes and Chris Simcock covering a good 21km+ throughout the journey.

The wet, the wind, the rough terrain of Christchurch's red zone and some decent banter for the best part of 5 hours was all great prep for what is going to hit us on the 21st June in hurricane of fun, gruelling pain and friendship testing.

Although we're 4 guys who love a challenge, we only do this for the result we attempt to provide for the charities we support, in this case, this year - Save the Children. So please donate as it literally the thought of it helps keep us moving on the day. We know this from experience.

  • Mt Herbert Extravaganza

Team Limit Zero decided to sacrifice their Sunday morning sleep in for a day running around the mountains! The game plan, catch the morning ferry from Lyttelton to Diamond Harbour, make our way up Mt Herbert and push around the mountain tops all the way back around to Lyttelton…. A forecast 50km on the menu for Team Limit Zero. With the day perfectly planned, all the was required was execution!!

We arrived safely in all our glory, 4 lads in matching Save the Children T-Shirts just in time for our 6.50am ferry across the harbour….unfortunately it was to all of our amusement/disgust, the timetable was read wrong and the earliest departing ferry was at 7.50am….straight back to the warm car it was!!

We got underway and took on the 9km climb to the Mt Herbert Peak which includes a 900m elevation gain (approximately 4 Rapaki tracks to all you city slickers)! Safe to say, this start woke us up! We reached the top and enjoyed the magnificent views along the way (photo evidence provided).

We began the run along ridge towards Packhorse Hut, which soon enough turned into a rapid decent. This tested all of our knee joints and ankle stability as we maneuvered through some questionable terrain.

The team were in good spirits coming off the track and onto Summit Road, just in time to be tested by “The Bastard.” The ever popular Summit road climb which has no doubt broken many cyclists over the years, hence the name. We took it on like champs and made our way up to the Crater Rim Track. It wasn’t so bad on foot if I don’t say so!

At this point we were 25km after approximately 4 hours of running/walking, not quite the pace we were hoping for. We continued on getting some much deserved flatter and even downhill sections of track. We pushed along the track through to just above the sign of the kiwi from where we had to call it a day! Unfortunately the lengthy uphill terrain mixed in with a Crusaders v Lions game the night before resulted in an early exit. All up we spent just under 6 hours on the track, covering around 35km, (50,000 steps for all you fit-bitters). It was a solid effort 10 days out from the big day! The bodies have been tested (slightly), and are ready for the challenge!

Bring on the Queen Charlotte Track!!
