The Long Path, The world record, double run of Te Araroa Trail, New Zealand
Nationwide
Last year my brother took his life. Seeing his suffering first hand and his experience of his pain in real time, was one of the most distressing times of my life. During this, I witnessed first hand the shortcomings and lack of support in the mental health sector in New Zealand.
I saw this absolute tragedy as a calling. Leveraging my passion in pushing my body and mind, I’ve decided to do something that will bring some change to Men’s mental health struggle in New Zealand.
I’ve decided to run the length of the Te Araroa trail, a 3,000km trail covering the whole length of New Zealand from the top, all the way to bottom and back again, covering over 6,000km’s total in 100 days. This will be a world record, never before done feat.
There are men in New Zealand who are living with deep burdens, from haunting past’s, mental health issues to the everyday pressures of life. New Zealand mental health system is extremely under funded and under resourced, so this money will be raised in an attempt to drastically change this. The Last Chance Project, fosters a safe environment for men, to develop and create new chapters of their lives through healing and nurturing. Providing a positive and sustainable transition to new beginnings and a better future.
Funds raised will cover the costs of this event taking place and anything above will support Last Chance Project and their efforts to raise men up and provide, teach and support them on their journey to healing and whole ness.
