The Zero Food Waste Challenge tackles food waste and the climate crisis, while fundraising for a local food charity addressing hunger in NZ
Auckland
KIA ORA. HELLO!
We're all about feeding bellies, not bins. We want to help the planet AND people in need.
That’s why DIOCESAN SCHOOL FOR GIRLS has signed up to the ZERO FOOD WASTE CHALLENGE, 1-12 November. Students will be completing some simple, smart tasks that help stop food waste and tackle the climate crisis. They’ll also be fundraising for a local food rescue charity that saves quality, surplus food from being dumped, and gets it to families in need everyday. Every $1 raised gives the equivalent of 3 meals to people in need.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Because 33% of ALL food produced worldwide goes uneaten. Food in landfill causes about 10% of all human-made greenhouse gas emissions, negatively impacting our environment. YIKES!
Meanwhile, 1 in 5 New Zealand children face food insecurity. That’s a million Kiwi kids going hungry because they can’t access good food.
But there is an answer. Zero food waste.
Thank you for supporting us to do our bit, one bite at a time.

ABOUT LOVE SOUP FOOD RESCUE (lovesoup.org.nz)
Everyday Love Soup rescues fit-to-eat, surplus food from producers, manufacturers, retailers, hospitality and supermarkets that would otherwise go to landfill, and redistributes it to people who struggle to put food on the table.
Love Soup also hosts community dinners, makes school lunches and supports those living rough with good nourishing kai.
By ‘feeding people, not landfill’ Love Soup tackles food insecurity, environmental issues and brings people together addressing social isolation. For the founder Julie King and over 100 volunteers, Love Soup is their purpose and wellness programme too.
Love Soup redistributes good rescued food to over 20 trusted community social agencies, charities and food banks throughout Tamaki Makaurau, Auckland, the Hibiscus Coast, Tokoroa and Rotorua. Each week Love Soup helps nourish 2,500 whanau households, impacting 12,500-17,500 individuals.
* Love Soup is a proud founding member of AFRA - the AOTEAROA FOOD RESCUE ALLIANCE. AFRA provides support for local food rescue organisations working throughout New Zealand to reduce food waste and increase food security in our communities, so all people and our planet thrive.
