Grafton United presents the missing 3rd test NZvSL

  • International political and legal crisis hits The3rdTestMatch

      20 December 2012

The3rdTestMatch organisers go into in hiding Thursday 20 December 2012. With only around 24 hours to go until either Ofsullivasekarafs Lions or Garlickfs Blackcaps face the first ball of the historic 3rd annual test match in Auckland, therefs bound to be a few nerves in both camps. Debutant Sri Lankan All rounder Hetal Patelinga was spotted last night pacing the pitch at Victoria Park, muttering and playing shots with an air bat against imaginary balls. gI have no comment to make, except that I have already played out my innings in my head several timesh said Mr Patelinga to news crews camped at the ground. gIn each case I scored only 199, so Ifm trying to work out how I can get that extra runh Respectfully, we suggest he smashes it over the boundary. More circumspect was Lankan vice captain and leg spinning sensation Garth Ollifernado. Ollifernado could be seen spinning the ball from Yorker length deliveries outside the leg side wide line and sideways onto leg stump. gMy only problem is whether I can get it to move a bit less, but as long as I bowl early before there are too many footmarks it should be OK. Fast bowler Thomas Simmondilshan preferred to rest up and could be seen drinking tea near the New Zealand team camp humming the Sri Lankan hit team song gLankan styleh, to the irritation of several members of the black caps squad. Itfs just not onh complained New Zealand T20 specialist George Parsons who had been named in his first test match last week. gIt took me days to get that stupid tune out of my head by listening to self hypnosis tapes all night longh. The good news is that Parsons appears to have finally beaten his gambling and smoking addictions and is reported to have tidied his room. It appears that Eli Margison the New Zealand batsmen with the distinctive record of having never been dismissed in a test match is at loggerheads with his old Sri Lankan nemesis Archie Gotharatne. Margison, a distant relative of former New Zealand great Scott Styrus looks to have been taking some lessons from the man, having stared down Gotharatne in a mid pitch showdown in club cricket in the weekend. The two looked destined for an ugly confrontation until umpires intervened. gTo be honest, Ifve got nothing but respect for Gotharatneh said a calm and cool looking Margison gHefs a great player so I love to get the better of him. Itfs just when we are on opposing teams, we get a little too competitive sometimesh. Here at the3rdTestMatch wefre looking forward to some fireworks on the first morning and expect to not be disappointed. In further news that will either thrill or horrify music and cricket fans worldwide, the3rdTestMatch have announced an album of their greatest hits will be released soon. Songs such as gBoundary riders of the stormh by the Doorknobs, gI canft get no opening batsmanh by the Rowling Groans and gMr Boombatstich by Sharry are sure to raise the odd eyebrow amongst the cricketing fraternity. Other hits rumoured to be on the playlist include gI got you out babeh by Sher, gI aintf nothinf but a grounds manh By Elfis Pratley and gI gotta fight for the right to leg spinh by the Beatty Boys. With songs such as gItfs been a hard day in the field all righth by the Caterpillars, gNo third man no cryh by Rob Marley & the Bail-ers and gWefve only just one runh by the Builders, lovers of good music will definitely be wanting this in their Christmas stockings on Wednesday morning. International correspondent in India, Viven Downes reports that the song gSri Lankan Styleh is now one of the most downloaded songs ever in that country and is very big in Delhi right now. gItfs very chaotic here, we just witnessed the first million person flash mob singing and dancing this hith reported a breathless Downes. gTherefs severe unrest in Jaipur with cricket fans demanding the Indian cricket team release their own team song, so Ifm heading there with the experienced film crew of Terry, Vince and Alan now to reporth. With clashes between authorities and fans likely unless the BCCI get their creative act together things could get very hot indeed. In the meantime, the organisers of www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/The3rdtestmatch are in hiding from the FBI for vague unspecifiable copyright infringements. Lawyers think this could end up costing multinational media companies almost NZ$2 which has outraged intellectual property specialists and legal experts in both countries. New Zealand law enforcement agencies are sparing no cost in assisting the FBI to bring the fiendish offenders to justice. NZ Prime Minister John Key is reported to have confirmed that costs of operation gHELPUSh have already exceeding the US$500M mark, with the police, military and all government departments on full alert and funds currently being diverted from school teachers via Novapay. gLookh said Mr Key gitfs important that we protect the interests of our trading partners on this matter and our citizens should be aware that they canft get away with breaking US federal laws in this country, even if it means giving up our sovereignty, so itfs money well spent. God Bless America!h When asked for his opinion on the matter, Opposition leader David Shearer had this to say gWell, Um, yes, I mean I, I think, um,... John Key has got this, Um..., I mean, He has this all wrong, or um ah, right I think,.. what were you asking?h. Russell Norman, Greens co-leader seemed confused by the issue gTo be honest, wefre just worried about the noise pollution ? I mean, how can the kakapo be expected to hear their partners mating calls with all that music racket, it should all be banned, so we can listen to nature. As for cricket, we do like the colour of the fields and think they should be supported instead of motorwaysh. Winston Peters refused to speak to reporters on the matter, but did hold up a large sign reading gNOh. Allegations that The3rdTestMatch has not been reporting with 100% accuracy in the lead up to the match have been hotly denied. However, with government agencies from the two world superpowers, as well as investigators for the ehonest reporting in journalism societyf, led by NZ Herald chief editor Gill South hot on their trail, We caught up with Gill and asked what the hell was going on. gItfs completely outrageoush South confirmed. gWe need to shut this thing down and get some standards back into reporting in this country, unless of course we can sign them on to the Herald on Sunday where they belongh. So is this the end for The3rdTestMatch? Will the voice of freedom finally be muted as they get tangled in a severe legal, constitutional, political and ethical combat? It seems not, as organisers have briefly come out of hiding from the Ecuadorian embassy and vowed to continue the fight in 12 months time. For now though, itfs up to the players, spectators and billions watching on television and webcasts to enjoy the momentous occasion and hope that Aucklands notoriously unreliable weather will play itfs part.

  • Sri Lankan team song released to worldwide acclaim

      19 December 2012

Sri Lankans triumph, fans exhausted, fighting words from NZ Wednesday 19 December We said it couldnft be done, it just seemed the impossible task. But youfve got to give it to those Lankans you just canft keep them down. Hot on the heels of the record breaking single from the black caps gYou gotta have faithh released on www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/The3rdtestmatch less than 36 hours earlier, Sri Lanka have gone one better with a team song that will blow your socks off. Already teenagers worldwide have been observed staggering down the street, ears bleeding after marathon listening sessions. According to veteran Sri Lankan players Finn Muralithambridge, George Fieldeep and Otto Inghamudalidge, the inspiration came after an intensive video session. gThe things we love to do most are to sing, dance, play cricket and tell people how awesome Sri Lanka ish Muralithambridge told us, while Fieldeep and Imghamudalidge impressed TV crews with an impromptu performance of the song gYeah, we just combined them all into a music videoh panted Fieldeep afterwards as the applause eventually died away. gI just wish the teenage girls could be a little better behavedh Inghamudalidge retorted g I just get sick of all the screaming and marriage proposalsh. Here at The3rdTestMatch we heartily agree, but still canft get the tune out of our heads. Even New Zealand middle order bat Aqueel Kamaldeen had to agree it was a catchy little number gAfter watching the video on the web, my family said that was a country they would like to visit one day, maybe when NZ tour again in three years time they could come alongh. A great idea, however Tourism Sri Lanka are expecting visitor numbers to skyrocket and advise the Kamaldeens and other fans to book early as hotel rooms are likely to be at a premium indefinitely. However for Lisa Middelberg, Auckland City hospital CEO and distant relative of New Zealand opening batsman Sam, the phenomenon has become more than a small concern. gLike all cities worldwide, we are bracing ourselves for the continuing barrage of fans exhausted from dancing non stop, descending on A&E. gI just hope that Sams parents can convince him to switch off his ipod and chill out a little before the matchh said Professor Middelberg gWe donft want anyone in the NZ team to become just another statistic of what we have named the Sri Lankan Dance Craze or SLDC syndromeh. For the small minority of fans who are not yet SLDC victims and are willing to take the risk, a copy of the music video can be found at www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/The3rdtestmatch, where donations totalling over $500 have already been pledged by adoring supporters worldwide. Despite the Lankans giving it back to them on the singing front, morale in the New Zealand camp appears to have stepped up a notch or two. Reports are that team manager Dame Deya Bhana has instituted a strict room policy of gNot tidy, No Playh Itfs about time some discipline was introduced to the New Zealanders, to counter the evolution of player power. According to Dame Bhana, who is taking time out from sitting on the boards of every major New Zealand company to sort out all the problems at New Zealand Cricket, there should be no problems from now on gLook, theyfre all still quite young really and even though they have been household names for years some of them still lack a little maturity and need a little guidance to keep them on the right pathh. Dame Bhanafs son Sachin is also in the team and is expected to open the bowling for New Zealand. gWell, it was a bit strange at first when she took over and some of the lads gave me a bit of grief for a while, but now they have nothing but respect for what she doesh Bhana junior told reporters. Meanwhile, Bhanafs team mate Mitch Lewis, fronting the morning press conference without his twin brother Nate, had some fighting words for reporters gI just donft know what all the fuss is about really, the Lankans just did a cheap rip off of a mildly popular songh said Lewis, rolling his eyes and shaking his head. gLetfs see how they like it when my deliveries repeatedly smash their wickets to pieces in the worlds first test match quadruple hat trick ? thatfs six wickets from consecutive deliveries in case you didnft knowh. Thanks for the lesson Lewis, wefre looking forward to seeing that!

With current projected estimates of 1 million ehitsf in the first 24 hours after release, this song looks likely to go viral, with record companies already lining up to sign the emerging new talent behind the music. Therefs no word yet from the Sri Lankan team as to whether they will try and match the kiwis, but fans are encouraged to keep their eye on givealittle.co.nz with only 69 hours remaining until the all important toss is made at Victoria park.

  • Illness rips through NZ squad

      17 December 2012

Mystery illness devastates new look NZ test squad 17 October 2012, 12.50pm Just when the average New Zealand cricket fan thought it couldnft get any worse, a mystery illness has broken out at the training facilities in Auckland. Reports that several squad members were bedridden this morning are filtering in to The3rdtestmatch news desk. Symptoms appear to include lethargy, grumpiness and a difficulty getting them out of bed to tidy their rooms. Sarah Richardson QC, former Silver fern centre, and mother of current black caps wicket keeper Jamie Dennett was looking very concerned this morning when we caught up with her gYes itfs pretty serious, the bus leaves for school soon and itfs been near to impossible to get him up and going this morningh, the normal cool calm and collected Richardson told us. gIt could have been the dodgy hotdog that he at last night from Suzies takeaways, but who would know? His room is in an atrocious state and he just wonft pick up any of his clothes from the floorh Similar stories were also filtering out from the Kelsall estate, with black cap all rounder Matthew Kelsallfs mother Alicia looking distraught as she was mobbed by reporters on her way to the estates helicopter pad today. gHefs just so grumpy and uncommunicative and said he didnft want to go to school any moreh a tearful Mrs Kelsall told us. gHe even said he might take a month off after the test match to relax and find himselfh. Shocking indeed. We can only hope that with four days left until the start of the vital 3rd test that Dennett, Kelsall and their team mates recover and are back to their best when they walk out to face the powerful Sri Lankans. Despite the Sri Lanka B team struggling in their match in Australia currently, the Sri Lankan squad appear to be acclimatising well to the New Zealand environment and several squad members were observed enjoying the hot sunny weather over the weekend. Shane de Lewisilva was one of those and we spoke to him about his time in New Zealand so far. De Lewisilva spent the weekend playing club cricket for local team Grafton United and appeared to find the conditions to his liking as he plundered a quick fire man of the match innings enabling Grafton to help themselves to a win against the over-awed Cornwall bowlers. gYes thank you for asking, it took me a while to get over the jet lag and find my feet, but the 30 degree temperatures meant I could stay warm and swing the bat a littleh de Lewisilva told us gAnother 20 or 30 degrees would just suit me perfectlyh. However, de Lewisilvafs current run of form may not last, with Cornwall opening bowler/batsman stalwart and current NZ test player Ronin Gogarty-Watson already plotting his revenge gYeah, de Lewisilva got a bit lucky on Saturday after Grafton won a vital toss and put us in on a green top, but I plan to get him out for a pair on Friday with my new delivery ? itfs a reverse-reverse inswing-outswing well flighted spinning yorker that is completely unplayable, nyah ha ha ha haaah. We canft wait. Organisers report that ticket sale donations to the match are selling fast. With 100% of ticket sale donations going to the Auckland city mission Christmas appeal, NZC are hopeful that a record crowd will turn up and that crowd numbers will get into double figures for the first time ever.

  • Taylor gives exclusive interview to The3rdtestmatch

      14 December 2012

Today, The3rdTestMatch secured an exlusive one on one interview with sacked NZ cricket captain Ross Taylor and other players, reported here. Taylor broke his silence to our reporters on how he felt about his sacking and what really happened behind the scenes in Sri Lanka last month and exactly when he plans to make a return to cricket for NZ. But first, in other 3rd test news, a matchday sponsor for the 3rd test has been announced, with Grafton United Cricket Club stepping up to provide facilities and equipment for both teams. Thanks To Grafton United, who are this season celebrating 150 years of cricket at the club, teams will be playing with the rare Kookaburra gA.G. Thompsonh 4 piece solid hide match balls, the highest quality balls available on the planet. New Zealand pace bowler Nate Lewis was uncharacteristically lost for words when interviewed on the subject today gFrankly, Ifm lost for wordsh he spluttered while signing autographs for the multitude of fans who had been queuing for hours gthose balls are like worth $1000 each or something. Now Ifm doubly honoured to play for my country and plan to bowl at 170kph to celebrateh. Likewise the Sri Lankans are relishing the opportunity to play with such an outstanding match ball gWe plan to thank Grafton United Cricket club for such a generous donation by seeing how far we can hit the NZ bowlersh said Archie Gotharatne, the renowned Sri Lankan opening batsman, opening bowler and #1 wicket keeper prodigy. gI just hope they bowl at world record pace every delivery and Ifm sure the fans will get plenty of catches ? as long as they are standing 50m out of the park!h With excitement building in the lead up to the match, newspapers, television and talkback have been running hot all week with the focus on Ross Taylors dismissal as NZ captain in all forms of the game. Although Taylor had been considering a comeback for the 3rd test at Victoria Park next week, in the end he made himself unavailable, leaving the door open for a crop of young guns to make their marks. Taylor has come out with some frank comments about his treatment in the last week, but has clearly been holding back key details. That is until today, when The3rdTestMatch caught up with him for what proved to be a highly emotional and thought provoking interview which we bring to you now, right here on givealittle.co.nz! [The3rdtestmatch]: gSo it would be fair to say you werenft happy about the sacking?h [RT]: gNoh. [The3rdtestmatch]: So Ross, tell us what really happened behind the scenes in Sri Lanka last month and exactly when you plan to make a return to cricket for NZh [RT]: gNo commenth. [The3rdtestmatch]: gOK, thanksh. [RT]: gThatfs OKh. [The3rdtestmatch]: gBye nowh. [RT] gSee youh. And there you have it, a world exclusive and you read it here first!

  • Head umpire announced

      13 December 2012

Garlick appointed to head umpiring panel for NZ SL test Thursday 13 December 2012. 12:45pm In news that will delight cricket fans worldwide, flamboyant umpire Marko Garlick has been appointed head umpire for the 3rd test between NZ and SL due to start in just over a weeks time at Victoria park in Auckland. Mr Garlick is not thought to be related to his younger brother the NZ captain and is unlikely to do him any favours on match day. gYes, Ifve heard of Pero and seen his statistics of course, but we havenft been introduced yet. Itfs a complete coincidence that we share a surnameh Mr Garlick told reporters this morning. gBut Ifll be expecting him to compete hard and put me under pressure with his appeals. However Ifll be sure to keep cool, calm and sexy as alwaysh. The NZ camp appeared to be in good spirits at training today, with the players undergoing a rigorous fitness regime and spending plenty of time in the nets. gWefre a bit worried that they might try and tie us up with their spinners and then bounce us out with unexpected paceh vice Captain Malachy OfSullivan confided during a photo shoot with eSports Illustratedf magazine gso wefre practicing just smashing them out of the park and looking coolh. gIfm especially looking forward to giving their captain OfSullivasekara a real hammering when he bowls, and turning his match figures into a source of ridicule for generationsh. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan B team is playing a series of matches in Australia, kicking off tomorrow with a five day game against an Australian selection in Hobart. Sri Lanka B features a strong line up of experienced former test players hoping to make their way back into the number 1 side for later in the summer. However, theyfll definitely find it tough to displace the incumbents if they perform well at Victoria park next week. All rounder Jasper Shanatunga is one of those who will be looking for a strong showing as he looks to cement his place in the team gI am very very happy to be selected and am expecting to finally get a chance to beat Brian Laras world record with the bat and be the first player ever to take 20 wickets on test debuth Shanatunga told fans at a columbo press conference yesterday gBut I plan to remain humble and wonft be too disappointed if I only get 19h.

  • Sri Lankan team announced for 3rd test

      11 December 2012

Cricmisinfo.com news ? Sri Lankan team for 3rd test Mikerakatne Curraweera December 11, 2012 The Sri Lanka selectors have named a strong line up with plenty of new names to face the Black Caps in the 3rd test at Victoria Park on Friday 21 December. With a new captain and vice captain leading the Sri Lankans, but plenty of batting all the way down the list, NZ will have to be at their best to compete. New captain Fintan OfSullivasekara is of mixed Sri Lankan and Irish descent and is a real cricketing veteran, having clocked up untold centuries and 10 wicket hauls in his backyard and he spoke to reporters this morning (NZ time). gTo be frank, I just donft rate this NZ side as having a chance against us and we should be able to wrap it up within a single dayh. Rumours that OfSullivasekara plans to try and get under the New Zealanders skins appeared to be confirmed. gWe wonft be sledging them, but plan to put them off their game by telling bad Irish and Sri Lankan jokes all day long. Theyfll happily give up their wickets just to get awayh. Meanwhile the New Zealanders will have their work cut out containing a new tearaway batting giant. James Hickmananaya, the eJesse Ryderf of Sri Lankan cricket just loves smacking any bowlers over the fence and claims the amazing record of the fastest century of all time ? 102 from just 17 balls. Unfortunately all records of this match were lost when the skylab satellite crashed to earth several years ago and the ICC have refused to ratify the record. gYeah, it really sucksh said Hickmananaya gBut Ifm just looking forward to taking it to those smug NZers and smashing their hopes and dreams into tiny pieces that canft be glued back together, except with some very fine superglue from K-marth. Here at Cricmisinfo.com we suggest the NZ players line the boundaries and hope someone else has to make a catch. The full Sri Lankan team is: Archie Gotharatne, Finn Murilithambridge, Fintan O'Sullivasekara (captain), Garth Ollifernando (vice captain), George Fieldeep, Hetal Patelinga, James Hickmananaya, Jasper Shanatunga, Matt Currawardene, Otto Inghamudalidge, Shane de Lewisilva and Thomas Simmondilshan.

  • Update for 07/12/2012

      7 December 2012

Cricket: New face to lead Black Caps in 3rd test Updated 5:05 PM Friday Dec 7, 2012. Itfs easy to forget amid the furore surrounding the captaincy, but the Black Caps have an important match coming up when they face off against the Sri Lankans at Victoria Park in the historic 3rd test. Only hours after announcing that their best batsman, Ross Taylor had been dumped to make way for McCullum, he also has now been axed as well, leaving the team short of experience and leadership. Itfs just not cricket some would say, but Taylors treatment and McCullums departure has clearly left selectors scratching their heads. Some will say it was the obvious choice right from the outset, but the naming of Pero Garlick to lead New Zealand still comes as a surprise to some. Garlic, a right arm spin bowler and middle order bat is best known as the eShane Warne of Grafton Year 7f. After terrifying Takapuna bowlers in a recent rep match with a vicious batting onslaught, his form could no longer be ignored. But the elevation to captaincy has surprised even the normally calm and collected Garlick. gAfter playing for Australia in last years 3rd test, I thought the chances of being selected for NZ were history, but Ifll give it a good shoth said young Garlick when interviewed this afternoon. gAs long as my opening batsmen both score double hundreds in each innings, we should be in with a good chance, but what Ifm really looking forward to doing the haka in front of a television audience of billionsh. Sources close to the Sri Lankan camp have reported the team is quietly preparing to avenge their humiliating defeat in the second test. No word has emerged yet about the likely makeup of the squad for the match, but there are rumours that former Australian captain Matt Currie has been seen training with the players and may be about to change allegiance to play for Sri Lanka. Currie, a New Zealand born resident who has never visited either Australia or Sri Lanka and has no relatives in either country surprised many when he was named to captain Australia in 2011. However, with the captaincy now having been passed onto Michael Clarke, Currie becomes a free agent and has made no attempt to deny these allegations. gYeah, sure mate, whatever, as long as I get to play I donft mindh Currie is alleged to have told the throngs of reporters and mostly female fans that filled the streets outside his hotel room. As the son of a former international superstar and sex symbol, Currie can clearly pick and choose where he wants to play his cricket. However, NZ fans can only hope that one day, he chooses to bolster the NZ ranks and return NZ cricket to top of the world rankings. With television rights to the match still under negotiation, the organisers have announced that both teams have agreed that all match fees will be donated to charity, Auckland City Missions Christmas appeal. Any donations from fans of these teams will be gratefully received

      4 December 2012

PRESS RELEASE NZ CRICKET 30 NOVEMBER 2012 NEW ZEALAND CHALLENGES SRI LANKA TO HISTORIC 3RD TEST New Zealand Cricket congratulates the black caps on their comeback victory against Sri Lanka in Colombo last night to draw an outstanding series 1-1 with the hosts. To further celebrate this magnificent series, A challenge has been issued for the playing of a 3rd and deciding test match. Sri Lanka have already indicated that they are likely to accept the challenge, with the match scheduled to be played at Victoria Park in Auckland, New Zealand on 18-22 December 2012. NZC are aware of the difficulties for both sides in scheduling this 3rd test, just prior to tours to South Africa/Australia. However, the depth of cricketing talent available, means that extensive rest and rotation can be utilised by both countries, while still fielding world class teams. It worked for the All Blacks, and is expected to be good for the Black Caps as their team names are quite similar. Playing squads for both countries will be announced during the next two weeks after the completion of further domestic matches. However rumours that Muttaiah Murilitharam and Shane Bond are considering coming out of retirement for the match are expected to raise excitement levels amongst fans on both sides to more than the highest levels imaginable. Further details will be released via the usual media sources as they become available. However, here at NZC, we are confident that the NZ bowlers will be able to utterly destroy the Sri Lanka batting line up in the space of less than 25 overs in each innings and this should give the batsmen a chance to get close, if not overcome whatever total Sri Lanka can post. This is good news, as the long range forecast is already predicting all play to be washed out between 18-21 December, and play is only likely to get underway on 22 December. We expect that the current one match winning streak being enjoyed by the Black Caps will fill the NZ players with the confidence needed to get the job done and wrap this series up. End
