Team Bayleys RaD Pioneer take on The Pioneer, a 549km Mountain Bike through NZ's Southern Alps. We would love your support for Make-A-Wish

Waikato

Team Bayleys RaD Pioneer (Ralph and David) are set to complete The Pioneer while raising money for Bayleys Elite sponsorship partner Make-A-Wish NZ.

Make-A-Wish grant the one true wish of Kiwi kids between three and 17 years old who have a life-threatening medical condition. Currently in New Zealand there are 400 children diagnosed every year. It is the joint vision of the Bayleys Foundation and Make-A-Wish NZ to grant every eligible child’s wish to bring hope, strength and joy during a very difficult time in their lives.

David Cashmore is a 53 year old real estate agent with Bayleys, Hamilton.

‘For most of my adult life I have enjoyed participation, at a reasonable level, with competitive sports and fitness events, always finding ways of challenging myself and getting out and around our beautiful country. As soon as I learnt of The Pioneer, I knew that this event would tick all of these boxes and really challenge my mountain biking partner Ralph and I.

Two years ago, I had a mountain biking accident that resulted in a fractured neck and nearly ended my riding days, I have also, for the past six years, managed a permanent illness. Part of the appeal of completing The Pioneer has been the challenge of training through and overcoming these conditions.

Ralph Heading is 48 years old and is David's brother in law.

"I have spent most of my life involved in outdoor sports of various pursuits including athletics, cricket, tennis, triathlon, mountain biking and golf.

I have spent numerous years travelling backwards and forwards to NZ with my Rotorua born wife Tracy; David and I have continued our love of the outdoors, cycling and travel.

The Pioneer is the ideal test for David and I. Given the adventures we have had together over the last 20 years, it was time for something bigger."

Team Bayleys Pioneer, Ralph and David are hopeful that by completing the 2017 Pioneer they can inspire others to push themselves in whatever challenges they choose to take on, while also raising funds for Make-A-Wish.

"We are both delighted to be able to assist to help raise funds for Make-A-Wish NZ to be able to support Kiwi kids with life threatening medical conditions."

Bayleys are proud to be the Elite Sponsor for Make-A-Wish NZ

Make-A-Wish grants wishes to children with life threatening medical conditions. These wishes are tailored to each child and designed to bring them hope, strength and joy at a difficult time in their lives.

It is our wish that the donations made to 'Team RaD' contribute to granting eligible Kiwi kids their one true wish that will allow them to experience something that they otherwise may not get and a chance for them and their families to forget their struggles, if even just for one day.
