I'm raising funds for Rape Crisis Dunedin as a fighter in the upcoming OUSA Charity Fight.
Otago
Kia ora, my name is Tom Tremewan and I'm trying to raise funds for Rape Crisis Dunedin by competing in OUSA's upcoming Charity Fight Night on Friday 13th July.
I'm hoping to raise $500+ for Rape Crisis Dunedin, a local non-profit community agency that provides immeasurable support for women and non-binary survivors of sexual violence. Sexual violence is a huge issue in our country, with 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys experiencing sexual abuse in their lifetime, possibly more.
Run by a number of extremely dedicated workers and volunteers, Rape Crisis Dunedin are severely and tragically underfunded. It's my hope that raising some money will help an incredible organisation continue their life saving work in our community.
A bit about me:
As some of you know, after a long history of struggling with alcohol abuse, at the start of 2018 I decided to give up drinking for good. As part of trying to keep myself sober and not bored out of my skull, I've taken up Sport and Exercise™.
Sadly, after a shoulder injury I had to hang up the speedos and pause my water polo career, but fortunately I've been able to enter the world of boxing (sorry mum) to take part in OUSA's Charity Fight Night to raise money for a good cause!
Everyday sexism, sexual violence, abuse, and misogyny is a huge issue in NZ as well as the international and national music industries. It's up to all of us to be proactive in our approach to stopping it.
