I will be running the Taupo Ultramarathon 100km for my mum and raising funds for Dementia Auckland.
Waikato
In 2016 while I was still living in Asia I received news that my mum was diagnosed with early stages of dementia at the young age of 68. Just the mere thought of her not remembering me and my young family because we were away was devastating and so it became one of the key reasons for our relocation back to NZ.
Three years later on October 12 2019 I'll be undertaking my first Ultramarathon which is 100km around Taupo and I've decided to run on behalf of Dementia Auckland to raise funds for the work they do for loved ones who have lost their way.
Today, my mum is surrounded by six children, 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren that love her and will remind her she is loved. But I hope you would donate whatever amount you can to the work my peeps at Dementia Auckland do to help those who are less fortunate and don't have a similar support crew like my mum's.
And if you're not doing anything on October 12th, come for a run.
