Fundraising for Rare Disorders NZ
Wellington
Kia ora!
At some point this year, I got the crazy idea to do a full length triathlon (3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, 43 km run) and thought that there's not much point in doing it just for myself. You may not have met my father, who passed away 8 years ago from a rare type of cancer, but he was an incredible human being. He told me when he was sick that he wished to raise money for rare diseases. Because each specific rare disease affects only a small number of individuals, scientific understanding and clinical expertise may be limited and fragmented.
I often reflect on my life and ask myself whether my father would be proud of me - undertaking this challenge might have given even him second thoughts, though! I want to be able to give something back after all he and my mother did to make me the person I am today. So all the funds I raise on this page over the next six weeks will be donated to the Rare Disorders NZ organisation (https://www.raredisorders.org.nz/). Race day is Saturday, December 3, 2022 in Iron Māori TOA (Friday December 2 in Canada).
Love,
Jane
[Note: For my Canadian friends and family, I am also fundraising for Canadian Organisation for Rare Disorders. The link to that page is on my Facebook and Instagram.]
