Join Me & Help the Kids of Vietnam

  • Update for 01/12/2010

      1 December 2010

Hello All, Not long to go now - I leave for Vietnam in one week today and the GVN program commences on the 15th Dec. I'm very excited and looking forward to being involved from in country. I have started to receive friendly and inspiring emails from people at the GVN who have previously volunteered at Tam Ky (where I will be based) as well as previous volunteers involved in similar programs. They all comment on how beautiful the babies are and the delight of the younger children when they are being taught/are learning. I've never given teaching a go and I'm a bit nervous to be honest - - I hope they don't think of me like I thought of my grade 4 teacher...and a whole lot of others :) As it stands today we have raised an impressive $560USD! This is a tremendous effort and I thank all of you who have so kindly donated. For those of you who haven't and would like to you still can via my fundraising website: http://www.givealittle.co.nz/member/amexis I have tonight discovered that I can upload videos and personal photos to my fundraising site, in addition to posting my updates. Providing I can get an internet connection I'll be sure to use the site in this way so you too can share the experience. Love & Peace Ax ?

  • Almost Half Way

      15 November 2010

Hi Everyone, A big thank-you to those of you who have donated money and ebay items following my last email.?Your support is?touching, encouraging and appreciated?so very much.?So far?we have reached $395.00 USD - a good effort,?and we still have 3 weeks to go!? I'm writing with some terrific news -?since my last email a girlfriend of mine (Claudia Pfister) has?confirmed that she is?coming to Vietnam in December?and has also been accepted by?the GVN?to the orphanage program. Not only does this mean the babies and children benefit from another hands-on carer and teacher?for two weeks +, but it means I?get to share the experience with?someone which I am delighted?about.? Claudia and I found out this week that our placement will be in an area called Tam Ky which is 70 kilometres south of Da Nang. In Tam Ky we?have the opportunity to work with three community organizations: The Home of Affection, the Tam Ky Baby Orphanage and Tam Ky Rehabilitation Center for Children. In these organisations we will be teaching English, arts and crafts (should be interesting), sports, and will also be taking care of the children at the orphanages and Rehabilitation Center. English teaching within the community is also part of this placement and we will be teaching?at a local hospital as well as in a small beach village (Tam Thanh). It's not long to go now and although I'm a little nervous, I'm mostly excited. I noticed this afternoon that my page is somehow hooked up to Facebook and I have a 'Like' tally....ahem.... :) Thanks again to those who have donated and for everyone's support -?I'm so lucky to have you in my life! Love & Peace Alex xxx

  • All About eBay Day

      11 October 2010

For all of the eBay Day donation details, please see below eBay Day Instead of donating cash why not donate something old and/or forgotten from around the house! On Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th of October I will be driving around the GC and Brisbane to collect items that you no longer want or need which can be sold on eBay. This could be an old appliance, outdated kids toy, piece of clothing, etc. All money raised from the sale of these goods will be donated to the Global Volunteer Network. If you have something that you would like to donate for sale on eBay please send me an email (alexandra.mexis@googlemail.com) letting me know what day ? 23rd or 24th of Oct ? and time suits you best for collection. To make this a worthwhile exercise please only donate an item/s that you believe will sell for $5AUD +. All money raised from the sale of items on eBay will go to the Global Volunteer Network and towards the orphanage that I will be working at.
