Ten days to go before we set off for the Nullarbor challenge. We almost have all our supplies we need from NZ. I have had my main 2x pairs of shoes resoled thanks to Quality Shoe Repairs in Hamilton and got my clothing all together.
The photo shows breakfast and some of the nutrition bars, gels etc that I will require.
Some interesting facts about the Nullarbor:
Nullarbor is Latin for Nullas, Arbor meaning No Trees. The Nullarbor sits on one of the largest limestone rocks in the world. It covers 200,000 Sq kilometers.
The Nullarbor is home to some 100 000 camels, almost all which are feral. They were used for transport when building the railways across the country then set free to roam.
The largest sheep station in the world resides on the western side of the Nullarbor and is 2.5 million acres in size.
In summer the temperature can rise to 50 degrees C and fall well below zero in the winter.
Arguably the longest straight in the world is on the Nullarbor at 146.6 kilometers long. I expect to take 3 days to walk this one straight.
The longest golf course in the world is on the Nullarbor and is an 18 hole 72 par course and is 1365 kilometers long. It takes about 5 days to complete.
The largest kangaroos (the big red) live on the Nullarbor.
I hope you all find this as interesting as I did 😊
