Sav and Mel's walk/run for Endometriosis New Zealand
Te Henga (Bethells Beach), Auckland
This month is Endometriosis Awareness Month so we have teamed up with Endometriosis NZ to raise money for the 1 in 10 women suffering from this illness. Endo is when tissue similar to what lines the uterus, grows on the reproductive system and other organs.
We're walking the Te Henga Walkway on the 26th of March! This is a 10.3km trail which will take 3-4 hours. This is a massive challenge for us with this debilitating illness.
I'm Sav, I'm 17 years old and have recently been diagnosed with stage 3 endo. This has left me bedridden on many occasions with unbearable pain. The past 2 years has seen me undergo many tests to be told there is “nothing wrong”. I have been rushed to hospital in excruciating pain and they haven’t been able to find anything before sending me home. My current gyne booked me in for an urgent laparoscopy last week which found widespread endo on my ovaries, bowel and bladder.
I'm Mel, I'm 26 years old. 12 years ago I woke up in a pool of my own blood. A few years prior to this horrible event I suffered from pelvic pain. That morning when I woke I knew something was very wrong. I finally had a laparoscopic surgery 5 years ago. Here “nothing was found” up until 2 years ago I was finally told I had stage 3 endo. Sadly, the health system let me down and my endo became widespread. I have spent many days in bed from extreme pain and exhaustion.
It's not certain why we get this abnormal growth or how to cure it. We're excited to raise awareness and money for endo!
