Extended 4 day version of the Westpac Chopper Appeal Bike Ride 2023
Auckland
I am a sucker for punishment when its for a good cause.
In 2020 I rode the length of New Zealand (3,500km in total) for Child Cancer raising over $30,000 and then in 2022 I rode 300km in a day with a mate again raising over $30,000 for youth mental health.
This time I am riding over 750km with some other lunatics for the Westpac Chopper Appeal. The actual ride is nearer 250km from Queenstown to Invercargill but in the spirit of pushing the boat out we have added another 500km of riding over 3 days to create a 4 Day ride of close to 800km..
Whilst that might sound tough to some it's nothing like the energy, passion and effort the Westpac Chopper team put in to save people lives.
Please get behind this team of nutters and I to support this awesome cause.
Thanks !!!!
[THANK YOU] Those damn 750km's have been ridden over 4 days .... and over $150k raised so far for the Westpac Choppers 15 May 2023
Dear Donors
Thank you all very much for the support you have given me and the team in raising funds for the Westpac Rescue Choppers Charity.
I can confirm that our group of 9 nutters has finished the extended 4 day ride completing the following:
Day 1: Dunedin to Alexandra - a nice ~200km ride in quite good conditions with 2450m of climbing into central Otago from Dunedin. Very hard to complain.
Day 2: Alexandra to Queenstown - a shorter ~100km ride to Queenstown with a beautiful section though to Cromwell before the rain and snow set in stopping us doing the Crowne Range unfortunately.
Day 3: Queenstown to Invercargill - a chunky ~250km ride with the larger crew including Mr McCaw, Mr Cowan and Mr Muliaina. This started in the dark, then we went through the snow and then into the rain whilst visiting many schools watching kids in mullets mob the All Black greats. It was rather cold.
Day 4: Invercargill to Balclutha - another 200km ride through the beautiful Catlins to wrap all it up. Tough day as the body started to break down and take the mind with it.
#jobdone
Again, thanks for all your support.
A final few learnings:
1. Riding through snow is both beautiful but also frickin cold. I couldn't feel the fingers or toes for a few hours.
2. Packing multiple pairs of gloves was smart.
3. Ibuprofen is your best friend when your body starts falling apart
4. There are a lot more than one Westpac Rescue Chopper ... more like 20-30 .. who would have known ;)
Thanks again.
Over and out.
Participating in the Westpac Chopper Appeal Bike Ride 2023 but adding on 500km in the days before and after to complete a 750km circuit.

Thanks Hugo. They say pain is weakness leaving the body... based on that a sh@tload of weakness has left my body... somehow 3kgs of weight entered it...
Cheers mate. Thanks for the support.
