'Where's Charlie'?? Charlies where he should be, back at work & celebrating life with his family and friends.
Canterbury
Myself (Rose), Charlie and Peter all workmates from Fonterra were about to embark on an exciting adventure (Tour of Aotearoa a 3000km bike ride from Cape Reinga to Bluff)
We'd arrived in Keri Ker, reassembled our bikes then decided to bike into town for lunch.
Peter and Charlie went on ahead as I needed to readjust some straps. As I was catching up I saw Charlie collapse and roll into a ditch, I caught up with him as he was trying to get back up, he said he had felt a bit dizzy but was fine, then he collapsed again.
Peter had been ahead but luckily, he heard me calling for him to come back.
We called 111 as Charlie had lost consciousness and had stopped breathing.
Peter immediately started CPR (absolute Legend!) until the ambulance and the Westpac helicopter arrived.
They were eventually able to get Charlie stable enough to be flown to hospital.
We are forever grateful to the Westpac helicopter for making this life saving trip.
In appreciation we are going to ride the TA this February to raise funds for this amazing service, and to raise awareness of the importance of learning CPR. Donations are going to the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust and they will help sort donations with the Northland Rescue Helicopter.
