Participating in Westpac Chopper Appeal Bike Ride 2023, plus early extras
Nationwide
The annual charity bike for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter is almost here - 250km from Queenstown to Invercargill.
I’ve always wanted to participate in this event, partly as it’s a great challenge, but also because it’s a great cause.
The Westpac Rescue Chopper is a vital emergency response service that provides urgent medical care and transportation to those in need. It's particularly important in large remote and hard-to-reach locations, ensuring that all Kiwis have access to the best medical care in times of emergency.
But providing this vital service comes at a cost. It relies on community support to fund the operation and maintenance of the choppers, medical equipment, and ongoing training for the medical staff.
So I decided I was in. But then some “ideas guy” decide that wasn't quite far enough...
With a small group of enthusiasts(?) I’m riding a rather intimidating 800km+ over 4 days from Dunedin stopping to refuel with pies and cheese rolls in at Alexandra, Wanaka, Queenstown, Gore, Invercargill, and ending up back in Dunedin.
All funds raised will go the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust.

Participating in the Westpac Chopper Appeal Bike Ride 2023 but adding on 500km in the days before and after to complete a 750km circuit.
Annual Bike Ride raising funds for this life saving service.
