Giving women the opportunity to realise a better future
Auckland
I was recently asked if I would consider being a mentor for the YWCA's Future Leaders Programme. As I only moved to New Zealand just over two years ago, I was flattered that I was considered a worthy candidate.
Not knowing much about it I looked into it further and found that The Future Leaders Programme is run by the YWCA in Auckland and was established in August 2002. At present there are approximately 120 young women from six schools around Auckland involved in the programme. It is a leadership programme for young women who have potential in leadership and who, with extra support, can achieve at a high level. The programme provides guidance, support and opportunities for self development.
The goal of the programme is to strengthen young women to become future leaders and to empower them to achieve their dreams through mentoring and self-development.
It is also one of a variety of opportunities that the YWCA offer to young women in Auckland, and I'm very happy to help them raise funds to ensure they they can continue to provide these services for a long time to come.
Auckland YWCA Future Leaders Programme supports emerging female leaders in low decile schools. The programme provides support through mentoring, activities and workshops, and I have recently agreed to participate in the programme a mentor.
I'm motivated to offer all the support I can, and as part of that support I will participate in the Round the Bays walk to raise funds and promote awareness for this worthy cause.
Walking to give women a better future. We are 100% Worth It!
Great thanks Moira!
Cheers Bev!! Greatly appreciated
