Please support The Arts Centre to ensure it continues to be a vibrant hub of culture, arts and education within the heart of Christchurch.
The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora is a home for the arts, culture, creativity, the creative industries and education in the heart of Ōtautahi Christchurch.
We are a charitable trust, and get no ongoing funds from council or central government. We rely on fundraising along with rent, ticket sales and venue hire, to keep ourselves afloat. Sadly, that doesn't pay all the bills. We are covering our operating loss with the interest earned on our post-quake insurance payout, but that will come to an end by 2022. We must secure long-term funding in the meantime, or face closure.
Since 1971, locals and visitors have come to The Arts Centre to share, learn and be entertained, and to enjoy New Zealand's largest collection of heritage buildings - 23 listed historic places in a single city block.
After the devastating Canterbury earthquakes, the community rallied round to save the centre from the wrecking ball.
The restoration effort is massive but two-thirds of the site is now open. Work has started on restoring the Observatory tower, which will incorporate a boutique hotel to provide a reliable income stream for the centre.
We need your donations for day to day operations: help us keep the lights on, music playing, children dancing, and artists creating. Our biggest costs include insurance and on-site security.
Thank you for your help. Without it, we may not survive.
