Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission is: “To guide at risk young people by promoting growth and development through the use of adults as mentors”.
Big Brothers Big Sisters offers a consistent one to one adult relationship that is designed to assist children and young people to face their everyday challenges.
Research shows what a huge difference a Big Brother or Big Sister can make in a child’s life. Studies have shown that young people who have been involved in mentoring are less likely to use drugs and alcohol, less likely to truant from school, less likely to hit someone, and are able to develop better relationships with their families.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programme has a direct and measurable impact on
children’s lives. Independent studies have found that children and young people involved
in this programme are more likely to succeed in school, behave non-violently and avoid risky
behavior.
