Protection of the Otago Peninsula's largest penguin colony
Dunedin, Otago
Blue Penguins Pukekura - The Pukekura Trust, a Charitable Trust have kaitiaki (guardianship) responsibilities to look after the whenua (land) and wildlife of the Takiharuru/Pilots Beach reserve. Within this reserve we have the responsibility to look after the Otago Peninsula's largest penguin colony (over 500 Korora or little penguins live here and a safe haven for seals, sea lions and an increasing population of other sea birds).
Our mission is to restore the coastal forest that once stood here and continue our work to ensure the wildlife contained within it this culturally and biodiverse reserve remains protected.
As a Charitable Trust our only current funding source is through our guided tours (www.bluepenguins.co.nz)
