Your support will enable us to enhance the mental health and wellbeing of young people through the provision of creative interventions and outlets for them to engage with their emotions and support their journey towards self-discovery and improved resilience.
Breathing Space is a registered charity (CC62282). Since 2016, we’ve been working to disrupt an often too clinical approach to youth mental health.
Rather than “doing therapy to” young people, we integrate traditional methods with a more creative approach that empowers high-risk rangatahi (youth) with voice and choice.
By encouraging self-exploration through movement and art-making, we’ve helped over 1,000 young people strengthen their mental health, addressing issues like:
- Trauma and abuse
- Family harm
- Socioeconomic disadvantage
- Cultural marginalisation and racism
- Educational disengagement
- Social isolation and bullying
- Gender and sexual identity issues
- Other vulnerabilities and generational concerns such as climate change and neurodivergance
Our services are culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and client-centred, ensuring that the therapeutic approach respects and upholds the identity and traditions of our kiritaki (client). By providing a platform for rangatahi to lead and explore their identities, we ensure that our approach reflects their culture and needs, contributing to long-term positive outcomes.
Thank you for contributing to our mission to support happier, more creative and more connected young people.
Our mission is to improve the mental health of young people through creative expression and fostering their sense of agency and self-worth, making Aotearoa New Zealand a place where young people are happier, more creative, and more connected.
Thank you for supporting Breathing Space Charitable Trust's work to improve mental health outcomes for our youth through creative wellbeing therapies.
