Christchurch School of Gymnastics

  • Update for 07/02/2012

      7 February 2012

The December quakes caused us much more damage. However with more strengthening of the wall panels we are able to continue in the new gym. The old gym is out of action maybe for some time, if not ever. The grounds of QEII will be tested in the next few months and that will tell us whether we can stay here or not. We are insured for the value of the building but the new excesses are 5% of the value of the facility not the damage, so our total excess from all events is now over $300k, over $100k of work has already been completed to ensure we are safe.

      2 July 2011

Christchurch School of Gymnastics was damaged badly in the February and June quakes in Chch. We are sited on QEII Park and have $1m to $2m in damage. The school is able to operate out of the new part of the building, which is 20% smaller than the older gym. The function room and storeroom are out of bounds. The buildings are insured but the excess will be in the vicinity of $50K which is difficult to budget for. Numbers are down as we do not have space for classes. Some classes have been transferred across time - we lease other premises at a cost. Please help us meet these additional costs so we can continue to provide quality affordable gymnastic classes to the children of Christchurch, particulary in the hard hit eastern areas.

  • Update for 03/12/2009

      3 December 2009

The 3 gymnasts and coaches are back form South Africa. The NZL scored over the 145.00 points needed to achieve the goal of approx 6th in the Commonwealth Teams competition. Now for the NZ Trials in early February. These trials are very early but NZ Gymnastics needs to continue to prove that our girls team is worthy of support and should get the chance to represent our country in New Delhi next year. There will be no holiday over the festive season.
