We are Chroma, the LGBTQIA+ Initiative for Southland. And we need your help!
We are a group of driven people who want to bring about visible change, awareness and inclusion to the Deep South of our wonderful Aotearoa. Southlanders are hardy and resilient folk, friendly, open and welcoming. We identify wholeheartedly with this way of life and are eager to play an active role in taking up this banner and carrying on the message that each person is different, unique and necessary.
Yes, Southland is different. And so are we!
Our aim is to actively engage and mobilise our community to create a more diverse and accepting society.
Our Core Goals:
- Local and physical representation.
- Social, legal and health support.
- Mental health support and pathways.
- Greater education and understanding.
Current Projects:
- Developing a local certification for recognising LGBTQIA+ friendly businesses and enterprises and promoting competency in staff training (in collaboration with The Awareness Project ®)
-Health related projects including transgender pathways, HRT etc.
-Working with local schools and colleges to develop an education package including talks and resources around LGBTQIA+ issues.
Current/ On going Activities:
-Monthly pizza and film nights.
-Panel talks at education facilities.
-Presentations for mental health awareness.
-Talks with health providers.
-Fortnightly social support group, with topical presentations/discussions.
-Collaboration with youth support group.
-Organisation of parent support group.
-Facilitation of community public events.
