This is a brief introduction to a life-changing program, recently developed in California by Grammy-award winning producer, Fritzi Horstman, Founder and Executive Director of Compassion Prison Project.

He waka eke noa.

Twelve week prisoner mental health program, Trauma Talks, developed by Dr Gabor Mate and other leaders in mental health.

For the past three years, our team has poured heart and time into offering these workshops—completely unpaid.

Now, the moment has come where we can finally apply for funding, and we must—because staff at seven of the country’s biggest prisons are calling out for us, asking us to bring this work inside their walls ! And to receive payment for the first time !

Today, there are 10,000 incarcerated people in Aotearoa, with over 50% being Māori and Polynesian. They are 15% of our population!

Prisoner quotes -

“This program really helped me open up, be vulnerable and deal with my traumas.”

“I experienced a true sense of growth in myself.”

“This really helped me open up, be vulnerable and deal with my traumas. Today I feel more at peace with myself. I’ve been able to accept, forgive and deal with everyone and everything that came from my traumas.

“Over this first six-week pilot, I definitely observed transformation. I heard it in the voices. I saw it in the eyes. I felt it in the handshakes as well as the stories.”
