Craigieburn Basin Restoration Trust

After the 2024 Bridge Hill fire, we're restoring the Craigieburn Basin - revegetating and battling gorse and broom for a 100-year vision

Castle Hill, Canterbury

In 2024, the Bridge Hill fire tore through the Craigieburn Basin with devastating speed. It was a moment of loss - but it was also a spark. Out of the ashes came something unexpected: a community coming together to dream about what this place could become.

We are the Craigieburn Basin Restoration Trust, and we have a 100-year vision - a Basin alive with native forest, birdsong, and thriving wildlife once again.

Right now, gorse and broom are moving fast, racing to claim the ground before native bush can take hold. Our work is to get ahead of them - revegetating with native species while battling back the weeds, hectare by hectare, season by season.

It's slow, hands-on mahi. It takes people on the ground, plants in the soil, and support behind us to keep going. Every donation helps us plant more, clear more weeds, and hold the line against invasion - so that one day, kea and kaka can once again fill this Basin with life.

We don't have all the answers, but we are asking the right questions, and learning fast. This is a place of deep meaning - a taonga carrying the footprints of those who came before us, and a legacy we're building for those who come after.

If our story speaks to you, we'd love your support. Every dollar goes towards restoring this remarkable place.
