Welcome to the Dhargyey Buddhist Centre Donation page - may all beings be well and happy.

Our Centre survives mainly on donations and membership subscriptions and we appreciate your generosity in practicing the perfection of giving in this way. The funds are used in the ongoing day to day costs of running the centre.

The Dhargyey Buddhist Centre was founded in Dunedin in 1984 as a Buddhist teaching centre by the Venerable Geshe Ngawang Dhargyey, one of the most highly qualified Gelug lamas of his time. Gelug refers to the same lineage of Tibetan Buddhism as His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Geshe Dhargyey gave it the Tibetan name Thuptän Shädrub Dhargyey Ling, which can be translated as The Dhargyey Centre for Buddhist Learning and Practice. After Geshe Dhargyey passed away in 1995, the guidance of the Centre passed to two of his highly esteemed students - Venerable Thupten Rinpoche and Venerable Lhagon Rinpoche - both of whom were with Geshe Dhargyey when they fled Tibet in 1959. They came from the same small monastery in Kham, East Tibet. Sadly Venerable Thupten Rinpoche passed away in 2011. Venerable Lhagön Rinpoche is now the Spiritual Head to all Dhargyey Centres in New Zealand. He oversees and advises on programmes and the development of the Centre in Dunedin too. Many important lineage teachers of the Tibetan Buddhist Gelugpa tradition have visited and taught at the Centre, including His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in 1992 and 2013.

Geshe Lobsang Dhönyë is our Resident Teacher, and we invite everyone in Dunedin to come to his teachings! He provides great insight into the roots of spiritual practice for all people.

Our resident teacher Geshe Lobsang Dhönyë is also available for the following services (free of charge):

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Aotearoa, we are a small Buddhist Sangha in Germany. Our Root-Lama, Stephen John Tibury, was a disciple of Geshe Ngawang Dhargye. Stephen (Steve) came to Europe in 1996/97, and, authorized by Geshe Ngawang Dhargye, taught the teachings of Bardo Thodol here. This was based on a new translation of the Bardo Thodol into English, which Geshe Ngawang Dhargye had commissioned Stephen to do, and which was then authorized by H. H. Dalai Lama. Steve left his body on Dec. 17 last year and was buried in Lübeck in northern Germany in January 2023. In memory and gratitude of Stephen John Tidury and Geshe Ngawang Dhargye, we would like to make a donation to your Sangha, which we conducted during a retreat in honor of Green Tara in Denmark. May the spiritual heritage of Geshe Dhargye continue to grow! Warm greetings from Germany German Sangha
