This year, Dio and St Paulfs Collegiate have jointly taken up the challenge to raise funds for construction of a classroom at the Njombe International Academy in Tanzania. To achieve this each school will need to raise approximately $11,000. The Academy, situated in the Southern Highlands on 208 acres of fertile land, will educate 96 pre-primary, 336 primary and up to 336 secondary school students from 44 neighbouring villages. Many of the children are orphans. Some of the land will be used primarily for growing pines and eucalyptus trees and the remainder will consist of school buildings, playing fields, farming and agriculture. The Academy will be a boarding school and the students will be offered the opportunity to get involved in various sports and extracurricular activities. Students from Waikato Diocesan and St Paulfs Collegiate recently sat down to brainstorm some fun and profitable ways in which both schools, as a community, could work together to raise money for this great cause. The following are some of the fundraisers discussed to date: The Annual St Paulfs Boarderfs Relay - this year including Dio team: The event consists of running around a course, non-stop, for 12 hours ? at least one member from each team must be constantly running. Students get sponsored by friends and family depending on the number of laps you run. All the money raised will go straight to the Tanzania project. Easter Eggs Gifting - Students bought an Easter egg and had it delivered to a friend at the other school. ! The Great School Car Wash Challenge - Who doesnft like a nice and clean, handy, dandy car? Both schools will run a car wash for Tanzania and what better way to do it but as a competition between St Paulfs and Dio? Although St Paulfs may have the big, buff boys to get the job done quickly, Dio girls will have the upper hand when it comes to ensuring a precise and neat job. Dates and time are still to be finalised. If you would like to support our Dio girls reach their target. Please give us a donation, because if we work together, itfs actually not such an impossible task!
