We aim to develop a safe, family-friendly cycle and walking trail from the centre of Dunedin through to Mosgiel via the two old rail tunnel
Otago
We’re creating a trail that would:
• create a family-friendly and safe commuter, recreational, and tourist corridor between Mosgiel, Fairfield, Abbotsford, Green Island, and Dunedin via the 2 Victorian rail tunnels at Caversham and Chain Hills
• provide a local accessible tourist attraction of Dunedin's heritage
• create a flat railtrail path
• enable cyclists and trail users to be able to move away from major traffic flows
• increase awareness and participation in outdoor activities and heritage railtrail
We're working through easement negotiations with landowners, and have started restoration of the old rail formation east of the Chain Hills tunnel.
Thank you!!
Wow, thank you for your wonderful generosity! We are currently in the early discussion/design phase with the Council on Stage 1 now: opening the Chain Hills tunnel and creating the Wingatui to Abbotsford path.
