Dunedin Tunnels Trail Trust

Dunedin Tunnels Trail Trust

We aim to develop a safe, family-friendly cycle and walking trail from the centre of Dunedin through to Mosgiel via the two old rail tunnel

Otago

We’re creating a trail that would:

• create a family-friendly and safe commuter, recreational, and tourist corridor between Mosgiel, Fairfield, Abbotsford, Green Island, and Dunedin via the 2 Victorian rail tunnels at Caversham and Chain Hills

• provide a local accessible tourist attraction of Dunedin's heritage

• create a flat railtrail path

• enable cyclists and trail users to be able to move away from major traffic flows

• increase awareness and participation in outdoor activities and heritage railtrail

We're working through easement negotiations with landowners, and have started restoration of the old rail formation east of the Chain Hills tunnel.
