A true nostalgic diamond in disguise, East Coast Museum of Technology is a perfectly imperfect museum.

Support the East Coast Museum of Technology and Help Keep Our Heritage Alive
Since 1969, the East Coast Museum of Technology has been dedicated to preserving and showcasing the transport, engineering, and technology heritage of Tairāwhiti Gisborne.
What began in a humble barn on Stout Street has grown into a vibrant, hands-on museum at Makaraka, thanks to the passion of volunteers and the generosity of our community.
From vintage locomotives and classic machinery to historical buildings and rare artefacts, ECMoT tells the story of innovation, industry, and everyday life across generations.
Right now, one of our biggest challenges is the earthquake strengthening of the iconic Kia Ora Dairy Factory, a landmark building central to our site and a key part of the region’s industrial history. This vital project will help safeguard the structure for future generations and allow us to make better use of it for displays, education, and events.
Your donation helps us:
Restore and protect our buildings
Strengthen and preserve the Kia Ora Dairy Factory
Maintain and grow our vast rail and machinery collections
Expand our display areas and improve visitor experiences
Every dollar makes a difference, whether it’s reinforcing a historic wall, restoring a vintage machine or vehicle, or supporting volunteer efforts on the ground.
Join us in protecting the past for the future. Donate today and be part of the legacy.
The East Coast Museum of Technology is a fully voluntary, not-for-profit organisation with a vast collection of history from the Tairāwhiti region and wider New Zealand.
