Providing food parcels, welfare checks, and social connection to help Marlborough's 65+ population thrive.
Blenheim, Marlborough
ElderLink is a Marlborough nonprofit helping the 65+ demographic combat the cost of living.
Many who built our community are being hit hard by rising costs. Limited funds don't stretch as an RNZ investigation finds 95% of a typical pension is consumed by rent alone in some areas. The Retirement Commission notes nearly 25% of retired Kiwis now rent.
During our startup phase we consulted and we listened. Many retirees are food rationing, hoping it will rollover into the next week. Vital life & other insurances are being forfeit. People feel forgotten by a system that assumes everyone 65+ owns their home. Christmas and occasions involving gifting bring worry instead of joy. Research shows social isolation impacts mortality as much as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, yet people are dropping social and hobby memberships they struggle to pay for.
ElderLink aims to mitigate the impact of rising essential costs by providing food parcels and social opportunities. Our Market Street hub exists as a place to connect, and to manage storage and distribution for food. We aim to host events such as movie nights at community halls, and 'talk cafes' for social connection.
We are reaching out to you for help, with the goal of being grassroots-funded rather than competing with local charities for limited grants.
There's nobody better to look after our retirees than those they paved the way for.
Every dollar you give keeps our lights on and shelves full for Marlborough’s 65+ community.
Thank you.

It's alive! ElderLink is changing lives and having an impact! 9 May 2025
20 food parcels, dozens of consults, and the onboarding of sponsors has kept us flat out for the past few weeks. Thank you to all who have made our mahi possible! We have just begun our remote food assistance service and are putting together the first of our 'Linking Generations' workshops.
Marlborough, you have responded so well to our start-up phase, and we can't thank you enough for being the best possible community in which to begin a non-profit service.
