Search and Rescue in New Zealand is provided free of charge. Almost all searchers are unpaid, highly trained, dedicated individuals providing a professional service to the lost and injured.
Funds are constantly needed for expenses such as equipment purchase and maintenance, room rental, and training.
Fiordland Search and Rescue Incorporated is affiliated with New Zealand Land SAR. The terrain in the Fiordland region dictates that helicopters are a vital tool in many search and rescue missions.
Helicopter's are funded through a variety of sources for actual searches, but Search and Rescue personnel require training for many aspects of helicopter work. This is a recurring cost as re-certification is frequent requirement.
Fiordland SAR provide professionally trained volunteers to assist in searching for, and rescuing people who have a misadventure of some nature in Fiordland.
