"Receiving a First Foundation scholarship would give me an opportunity that would change my life".

    - Wrote Chevy-Willow on her application to First Foundation. Growing up in disadvantaged circumstances, she faced and overcame unimaginable barriers to achieve her dream.

Last year, Chevy-Willow graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing and works at Kenepuru Hospital-Te Hohipera o Kenepuru, where she practices as a registered Māori nurse. She has begun studying for her Master of Nursing, to qualify as a Nurse Practitioner, and one day plans to become a doctor.

We’re proud to see Kiyara Glasgow-Smith’s courage recognised in Stuff: “Schoolgirl by day, homeless by night: How Kiwi teen fought back from life on the streets.” Her journey is a powerful reminder of what your support makes possible.

Because of generous supporters, determined young people like Kiyara don’t have to let circumstance define their future. You show that while talent is everywhere, opportunity often isn’t, and when the community steps in, ambition can thrive even in the toughest times.

A heartfelt thank you to Allan Pollard and the Portage and Waitākere Licensing Trusts for standing alongside Kiyara and so many others. Your backing helps turn potential into possibility.

A heartfelt thanks also to Stuff and journalist Mildred Armah, for shining a light on stories like Kiyara’s. By sharing them, we all see more clearly both the challenges young New Zealanders face and the opportunities we have, together, to make change.
