Please help bring back the birds, trees and other natural taonga in our 3 reserves.
Waiheke Island, Auckland
Waiheke Island has earned the title 'World's Second Weediest Island' after Oahu, Hawaii. There is also a big push to make Waiheke predator free. Our Forest & Bird reserves have not managed to escape the invasion of this suite of introduced species either. Thousands of hours of paid and volunteer hours have been poured into our projects in order to achieve the goal of restoring our reserves. We also do community outreach work to benefit the island generally and raise awareness. With your support we will continue to remove the pests, continue native planting, maintain infrastructure: signage, bridges, tracks, purchase materials and allow nature to reassert it's natural character. This work gains huge environmental benefits for the community and supports healthy biodiversity and wellbeing. Trees sequester carbon, stabilise the soil, limit flooding, trap pollutants and provide food and habitat for native birds, lizards and invertebrates. Please donate what you can or set up a monthly payment system. Help enable us to continue helping our reserves and the environment.
Forest and bird is a registered charity, reliant on donations. Our local branch oversee's management of three F&B reserves on Waiheke, totaling 250 acres. We need funds for tree planting, noxious weed removal, predator control, tracks and infrastructure.
