Based on the results of a Community Needs Assessment (October 2009), we are opening our Kindergarten in January 2011, creating a haven where children can experience an unhurried childhood in a natural homelike environment. One that supports our families, our community and builds the foundation of who our children will be come as adults, our future community and environment.

Our Playgroup has been operational since 1989 with a 2 year recess 2003-2005. Since 2005 we have grown the Playgroup community to over 25 families in the Taupo Community. We are supported by the following organisations: Ministry of Education – annual audits and funding, Federation of Rudolf Steiner Schools – annual audits and support, Taupo Parents Centre, Plunket, REAP

A PICTURE OF WHAT OUR KINDERGARTEN WILL LOOK LIKE: Start time: A rolling start time between 8.30am and 9am Finish time: Optional 12.30 finish, or 2.30 finish. 20 children 2 qualified teachers Meals: 2 snack meals of fruit and crackers, and 1 cooked meal at lunchtime. Cost: there will be a small contribution towards the organic food. There will be ? a natural and unhurried approach to childhood ? time and space for the wonder of discovering the natural environment. ? an education for the whole child ? spirit, mind and body. ? rhythm to the days activities ? flow between time spent in free play, and time spent together as a group. ? circle activities, storytelling, puppetry, art projects, song ? preparing and enjoying healthy food together, ? indoor and outdoor free play, each day, rain or shine, ? rest time ? simple toys made out of wood, nuts, seeds and seashells. ? gentle imagery and song to guide children through transitions. ? practical activities such as cooking, cleaning and gardening. ? celebration of seasonal festivals ? connection with Te Whariki, New Zealandfs early childhood curriculum ? continued parent involvement through initiatives and workshops, so that parents are able to fully participate within their childfs early childhood education.
