Poverty In Need Child Welfare

My name is Zara, I am 11 and I go to an intermediate. At my school we are doing an impact project which is where we have to do something that makes a good difference in the community. I decided that I was going to donate to a charity. It was hard deciding on what charity to donate to. I studied a lot of the charities but still couldn't decide which one to do. But then someone gave me the idea of Gizzy School Lunches. So I interviewed the lady who had the idea of starting the charity and before I talked to her I used to think why we should give our money to the parents who have no money. Because they should be spending it on things that are necessary or find a job and stop being lazy. Then she told me a lot of the time it's not the parent's fault because either they couldn't get a job or once all the bill's and rent has been paid they are left with little money to buy food. She also told me at the beginning before she began the charity she had no idea of how it was going to work. So she thought to herself how she was going to resolve the problem. So she took action and asked for volunteers on Facebook and to her surprise there was quite a lot willing to help. Then the next problem was she needed money to buy the food and that's why we need your help all you have to do is donate and that will have helped buy some food to give to kiwi kids. Gizzy School Lunches provides healthy lunches which include a fruit, 2 sandwiches and a little goody. Since the kid's parents don't have much money for the lunch it's only 5 dollars for the first child and 1 dollar for the rest. So please help those in need for lunch, get it, because it's really hard having no food for the day. Your energy levels are low which can cause you to fall asleep in class or bully people or find it hard to do you work. So please kid's shouldn't have to starve any longer let's take action now. After all, it is not the kids fault, no matter what.

Organisation details

GIZZY SCHOOL LUNCHES PROVIDES A SERVICE FOR WHANAU TO GET THEIR TAMARIKI TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY AND WE ALSO SUPPLY LUNCHES. WE KNOW THAT KIDS ARE EITHER BEING KEPT AT HOME OR GOING TO SCHOOLS WITHOUT LUNCH. THE IDEA WAS TO CHARGE A NOMINAL AMOUNT FOR THE PARENTS THAT CAN BE AUTOMATICALLY PAID INTO AN ACCOUNT. SO OUR TAMARIKI WILL GET FED AND HOPEFULLY CHANGE THE CYCLE. WE AT GSL DO NOT MAKE JUDGEMENT OF WHY, HOW, WHERE, THE TAMARIKI ARE NOT GETTING FED…WE ARE HERE JUST TO MAKE SURE THE DO HAVE LUNCH.

WE CHARGE $5 FOR FIRST CHILD AND $1 FOR EACH OTHER CHILD IN THE HOUSE, THESE ARE PREPAID. WE EXPECT THE PARENTS TO BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE PAYMENT AS IT IS A NOMINAL FEE, AND DOES NOT COVER THE COST OF LUNCH FOR 1 CHILD. IT COSTS A FAMILY OF 3 $7 A WEEK, AND IT COSTS US $24 A WEEK. THE VIEW IS, IF THERE IS NO PAYMENT, THEN THE CHILD/CHILDREN WILL BE TAKEN OFF THE LUNCHES AND PUT ON A WAITING LIST…. THE LUNCHES ARE BASIC…2 SANDWICHES, AND A PIECE OF FRUIT, RIGHT NOW WE ARE ENDEAVORING TO MAKE 1 DAY WHERE THERE IS A PROTEIN. TODAY WE HAD HAM SANDWICHES FOR THE KIDS, AND A MARMITE SANDWICH. MOST FRIDAYS THEY HAVE AN EGG SANDWICH

WE HAVE SET UP A TEAM OF BETWEEN 5 - 6 VOLUNTEERS DAILY TO MAKE LUNCHES WITH A TEAM LEADER…….WE ALSO SET UP 3 DRIVERS TO DELIVER THE LUNCHES EACH DAY TO THE SCHOOLS, AT THIS STAGE WE DELIVER TO 22 SCHOOLS, FROM KOHANGA/KINDY..TO HIGH SCHOOL. WE ARE AT 160 LUNCHES AT 13/04/16. WE TRY TO HAVE DIFFERENT PEOPLE EACH DAY, SO THAT THEY ARE ONLY VOLUNTEERING 1 DAY A WEEK AND WE DON’T OVER USE THEM.

WE HAVE AN AWESOME GROUP OF TEAM LEADERS AND HAVE SET UP AN ADMIN TEAM, FUNDRAISING TEAM AND AN ACCOUNTS EXEC TEAM. WITHIN THESE GROUPS, WE HAVE CO-ORDINATOR THAT LEAD THE TEAM LEADERS. OTHERS HAVE ROLES E.G ACCOUNTS, SECRETARIAL ETC.

FUNDRAISING IS IMPERATIVE AS THE COSTS OF THE LUNCHES IN NO WAY MEET WHAT IS BEING PAID IN….WE RUN RAFFLES, QUIZ NIGHTS, DO SAUSAGE SIZZLES ETC. WE HAVE ALSO APPLIED FOR SOME LOCAL FUNDING.

GSL IS RUN TOTALLY BY VOLUNTEERS, INCLUDING THE DELIVERY PEOPLE THAT DELIVER TO THE SCHOOLS DAILY AT THEIR OWN COST.

HELP US TO HELP OUR TAMARIKI, OUR FUTURE. EVERY CHILD SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN
