Globally, 1 in 5 people have a hearing loss of some kind.

Hearing Nelson is a registered charity and does not receive any government funding. One of our key strategies is to provide new ways of reaching people and communities who aren’t already accessing an audiologist, providing reliable, unbiased advice and support to all people in our community, using an innovative and interactive approach to learning and supporting people.

For residents in rest homes and retirement villages we offer hearing aid cleaning, basic maintenance, battery sales and advice.

Our education includes training for carers on how to communicate with the hard of hearing and advice on general care of hearing devices; as well as education to raise awareness about sign language and hearing loss prevention, delivered in schools through our Dangerous Decibels Programme and to community groups.

Our Support Facilitators provide support to the deaf community and hard of hearing, including support and advocacy, sign interpretation and home visits where mobility or social needs have been identified as affecting general wellbeing. The service is also able to identify and support people at various stages of their journey through gradual or sudden hearing loss.

We stock a small range of technology for demonstration purposes and sale if required, to assist people with hearing loss and how they interact with communication devices and other technology.
