Support 30+ years of conservation - protecting the largest colony of Little penguins on mainland New Zealand.
Canterbury
After 30+ years of protecting the White-flippered penguins ad their habitat at Pohatu and colony numbers increasing, we are now seeing an alarming decrease.
Our aim is to collect key information on the penguins’ behaviour at sea through GPS tracking and diet analysis so we can understand what factors are threatening our long-term goal of a sustainable colony helping to repopulate the Banks Peninsula and benefit our local biodiversity.
On top of the significant costs of technical hardware we need additional specialist scientific resources.
Covid has had a major impact on our fund-raising opportunities as our international tourist business like many others has been hit hard so please help us help the penguins.
The Trust aims to carry on with the 30+ years of conservation efforts the Helps family have been doing with protecting the largest colony of Kororā/White-flippered penguins on mainland NZ.
We aim to continue with our hands on conservation from; Intensive predator control, Penguin rehabilitation, Research, Monitoring, Outreach, Educational school trips and Conservation youth clubs.
We are Kororā Kaitiaki for Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū/Banks peninsula and working together we wish to see our dream of Kororā/White-flippered penguins become abundant once again.
