Hibiscus Mens Shed Trust working for the greater community. Constructing new premises to expand our value to individuals and local groups.
Auckland
Hibiscus Mens Shed Trust is a charitable organisation situated on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula serving the greater Rodney area.
With the assistance of members and local body grants we are presently constructing large new premises in Silverdale on the Memorial Park grounds behind Bunnings. These new premises will cater for a demand of well over 200 members and it will enable the existing community work that the Mens Shed does to be considerably expanded. The members have raised over $76,000 themselves toward this new facility.
Our work is community based assisting schools, colleges, daycare centres, local conservation and environmental groups, council depts and many other organisations and charities.
Once installed, the Mens Shed will have fully equiped woodworking, engineering, IT, and hobby areas where our very talented volunteer members complete work for the greater community. Shortly we are to commission a “youth development” programme for both young men and women that possibly not had the leadership and opportunities we can provide.
Our present leased building has proven to be too small and unsafe for an expanding membership and with these restraints, does not allow us to expand further activity in the community.
A significant floorspace in the new building is designated a Community Area with full kitchen facilities. This facility will be available to all community groups to book and use. Also on our agenda is demonstration cooking classes, health awareness and school holiday programmes.
The funding we now appeal for is to complete the Community/Kitchen area. The sum needed to fully install the kitchen is $20,000 and we would appreciate any amount you are able to contribute to this figure.
We, the Chairman and Trustees, give our grateful thanks in advance of any donation received.

Construction almost ready to start. 9 May 2021
We’re now waiting on the construction company to commence the build. A little worried about the national shortage of materials but we’re assured by the builder that all our requirements are safe.
Looking forward to that first portal.
