THE JOURNEY FROM GOOD TO GREAT TAKES A GREAT TEAM AND YOUR HELP.
FROM GOOD TO GREAT
Your help assisted us in removing some of the cattle stops. Another set is about to be replaced in the coming months. Thank you! Now we want to make the Hauraki Rail Trail even better!
There are 117 traps in operation on the Hauraki Rail Trail, which Dennis Hayfield checks every 3 weeks. Since May 2017 Dennis has caught 139 Stoats, 104 Rats, 96 Hedgehogs, and 3 Ferrets.
The Hauraki Rail Trail Trust want to extend this work through Section C, and are in discussions with the local Deer Hunters Association, who want to partner with the Trust to run trapline from Waihi to Paeroa.
Carters Building Supplies have donated wood for the traps, and the Trust is now raising money to install this new trapline at $35 per unit. In addition, the Trust is working with operators to donate towards the initiative.
If you would like to support this project all donations are welcome, however small.
The day-to-day activities of the Trust ensure that the Hauraki Rail Trail is maintained to an appropriate standard as a national Grade 1 cycleway, for which we partly rely on the involvement of local communities. Your donation to the Trust enables us to take this incredible community asset from good to great, giving enjoyment and health benefits to those who use it.
