Auckland

Imagine an Aotearoa where every resource is reused and reimagined. The Resource Centre - West Auckland was set up in 1977 by a group of like-minded people concerned at the large amount of valuable materials being dumped in landfills, when they could be repurposed and reused. We provide reusable creative materials to the community especially ECE's, Schools and many creative makers across Auckland.

We believe in a brighter, cleaner future Aotearoa New Zealand where resources are kept out of landfill, their life extended and reducing the consumption of new resources. At The Resource Centre - West Auckland we aim to break barriers to transform the way people understand the value of our earth’s resources. We want to ensure access to affordable resources for creative use and save thousands of tonnes of valuable resources from landfill.

We are focused on providing ongoing education about the reuse of resources and provide educational programmes including workshops, events and community initiatives. Our Volunteers are the heart of our organisation and together we are taking action to be part of the solution. As a charity we are asking the wider community to pay it forward and support our waste free kaupapa by donating to support our work.

We are asking for your on-going or one off support to grow this community led organisation and to transform it into a thriving space that promotes the values of repurposing and reusing resources while also meeting community needs and shifting public perceptions of waste resources. Most importantly of all we want to continue to work collaboratively to respond to global climate challenges at a local level.

We run entirely with volunteers and charge a affordable fee to access the resources at the centre but we work from an old garage with no toilet facilities. We need your support to keep going! To help pay our power, to help keep our crappy van on the road so we can pick up valuable reusable resources from our suppliers and maybe to hire someone at the living wage to help with all the admin and extra tasks we need to do to keep the centre active and to revitalise and promote reusing waste in the face of the global challenge of both Covid 19 and climate change. More about us

We are a Charitable Trust run by dedicated waste champions. The resource centre was set up in 1970's to save useful reusable resources, sourced from businesses across Auckland, (that others might call junk!) from being wasted in landfills. We save it and share it out with our community, especially schools, early childhood centres, artists and makers. We want to see a zero waste Aotearoa and encourage people to use reusable resources where they can instead of new. Together we can change the world!
